How to Two-Step*

*As practiced at the Longbranch in Raleigh, North Carolina

     
Guy:
  1. Stand with feet together, facing partner.
  2. Put right hand on partner's waist.
  3. Put left hand up and to side, arm slightly bent.
  4. Grasp partner's hand.
  5. Wait for music to start.
  6. On first beat, step forward quickly with left foot.
  7. On second beat, step forward quickly with right foot.
  8. On third beat, step forward slowly with left foot.
  9. On fourth beat, continue stepping forward slowly.
  10. On fifth beat, step forward slowly with right foot.
  11. On sixth beat, continue stepping forward slowly, pulling left foot even with right foot.
  12. Rinse and repeat. If necessary, count as "quick, quick, slow, slow."
  13. Resist urge to "window wash" with left hand.
  14. Resist urge to lift feet. Slide more than step.
  15. Refrain from wearing rubber soles.
  16. Watch where you are going.
  17. Practice, practice, practice.
      


But how big is his belt buckle???

Gal:
  1. Place left hand on partner's right shoulder.
  2. Bend right elbow and place palm of right hand on outstretched palm.
  3. Do opposite of what partner does, e.g.:
  4. On first beat, step backward quickly with right foot.
  5. On second beat, step backward quickly with left foot.
  6. On third beat, step backward slowly with right foot.
  7. On fourth beat, continue stepping backward slowly.
  8. On fifth beat, step backward slowly with left foot.
  9. On sixth beat, continue stepping backward slowly, pulling right foot even with left .
  10. Continue following partner's lead.
  11. Resist temptation to lead.
  12. Smile often.
  13. Practice, practice, practice.

Non-smoking is preferred

Non-drunken is preferred

Breath mints never hurt

Less perfume than more

More partners equals more practice

No standing on the dance floor, please
