The Love Letter (1999)

Kate Capshaw stars in THE LOVE LETTER, an interesting-if-largely-un-
affecting romantic-comedy-with-drama. A farce at first, it turns
serious in the second hour. The ensemble cast ends up a mixed bag,
though Rosie O'Donnell abusee Tom Selleck is great. (How 'bout those
Clark Kent glasses?) And you gotta love the casting of Gloria Stuart
as mom to Blythe Danner as mom to Ms. Capshaw... With Ellen DeGen-
eres, Geraldine McEwan, Julianne Nicholson, and Tom Everett Scott.
Peter Chan directs Maria Maggenti's adaptation of Cathleen Schine's
novel. (Rated "R"/95 min.)

Grade: C
