American Psycho (2000)

  
AMERICAN PSYCHO is a head-scratcher.  Or is there just nothing *to*
get?  Most successful as a late-eighties time capsule (gee, there's
a draw), Mary Harron's update of Bret Easton Ellis' much-maligned 
novel is short on suspense and long on stylized vapidity.  Man, 
these are some empty-assed characters.  And it doesn't help that 
Christian "Buff" Bale sounds *just* like Jim Carrey.  Weird.  Pass
the chainsaw.  With Willem Dafoe, Jared Leto, Reese Witherspoon, Sa-
mantha Mathis, and Chloe Sevigny.  Harron is also credited with the
screenplay, with Guinevere Turner.  (Rated "R"/102 min.)
