RALEIGH - Aftermath of house fire at 4125 Kincaid Drive. Reported occupant
trapped. Arriving police officer reported flames showing. Working fire assignment dispatched
while units were en route. Engine 21 arrived at the one-story structure with heavy smoke
and fire showing from the front. Elderly male trapped, and had remained on phone with
911 operators, to tell his location. Engine 21 made entry, and started searching.
Rescue 1 joined, also searching. Resident found in bedroom, removed from
structure, and in respiratory
arrest. He was resuscitated by fire and EMS personnel, then transported to WakeMed, and later
airlifted to the burn center at Chapel Hill. The police officer and another man also attempted entry,
prior to fire department arrival. Both suffered smoke inhalation and were treated and
released at WakeMed. Three dogs also rescued. Dispatched 8:50 p.m. Controlled 9:10 p.m. Cause remains under investigation. Units on scene included E21, E21, E11, E19, L2, R1, B2, B1, A1, C10, C20, C40, EMS 5, EMS 2, EMS 63, D1, M94, T1. "C" platoon.
