Engine 22 relocated from their temporary quarters at the water plant on Falls of Neuse Road. They were in quarters by 10:00 a.m. Battalion 1 arrived about 11:00 a.m., relocated from Station 19. The bid amount was $6,880,000. The two-story, 15,800 square-foot structure will be erected on a two-acre site, already owned by the city, at 10050 Durant Road. The parcel was previously planned for use as a park.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The project was first presented to City Council on August 15, 2017. On September 5 of that year, they approved the project budget, and the reprogramming of 1.3 acres of property for project use. On August 18, 2020, they approved the reprogramming of an additional 0.698 acres of city-owned property at 10050 Durant Road.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The RFQ for a professional Construction Manager at Risk was issued on August 21, 2018. Qualifications were received on September 28 of that year. The city entered into a master CMAR contract with Monteith in April 2020, including a pre-construction services scope in the amount of $39,000.<\/p>\n<p>Monteith held an initial public bid opening on October 15, 2020, for multiple bid packages for first-tier subcontractors for construction of the project. As some of the bid packages did not have sufficient bids (three required) to open, they were re-advertised for bid and publicly opened on October 29, 2020.<\/p>\n<p>September 16, 2020<br \/>\nWhat&#8217;s happening with the relocation of Raleigh Station 22? The city has opened the process for construction bids, starting today. Closes October 15. The one- and two-story, three-bay building is planned for 10050 Durant Road. It housed an engine and ladder company on a 1.95 parcel site donated by Mallinckrodt Corporation. It closed on February 5, 2019, in response to planning for the proposed Southeast Corridor high-speed rail initiative. The building was demolished the following month. Engine 22 and Ladder 5 were relocated to temporary quarters on February 5, 2019, at the Falls of Neuse water plant and Station 25 respectively. Haz-Mat 4, the decon unit, was also moved to Station 25.<\/p>\n<p>Demolition of the vacated fire station was done in March and April. The new station will be erected at 10050 Durant Road.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Currently in design and plan review, facility is estimated to begin construction in the spring of 2020.\u00a0The design team has to submit documents to the Board of Adjustment in August 2019 for final determination on multiple requested variances.<\/p>\n<p>April 23<\/p>\n<p><strong>Revised Design Drawings<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Here are revised design drawings of the new station by Davis Kane Architects. Davis Kane Architects.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/legeros.com\/blog\/design-services-for-new-fire-station-22\/\">See blog post<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-2602\"><\/span>August 14, 2017<br \/>\nAs noted in\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.boarddocs.com\/nc\/raleigh\/Board.nsf\/goto?open&amp;id=APWQN65CE165\">this agenda item <\/a>for tomorrow\u2019s City Council meeting, the city is planning to relocate Fire Station 22 on Durant Road. The site is needed for projects related to the proposed <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sehsr.org\/\">Southeast Corridor high-speed rail<\/a> initiative.<\/p>\n<p>The state is planning an expansion of the crossing on Durant Road, just east of the fire station. The added grade separation will occupy the entirety of the fire station property.<\/p>\n<p>This project\u2019s been on the city\u2019s radar since as early as 2010. This year, they were notified that the state sought to accelerate the schedule of the rail project. They\u2019re planning a 14,000 square-foot fire station with two stories and three bays. It will be equipped to house an engine and ladder company, haz-mat apparatus, and space for a future Battalion Chief, which may be added later.<\/p>\n<p>The size and scope of the facility is consistent with the scope of other planned and pending fire department facilities, such as the new Station 12 and Station 14 buildings. (Those two have been designed to also house a Division Chief.)<\/p>\n<p>City officials have selected a replacement site at 10050 Durant Road, which is part of a larger city-owned parcel that includes Abbotts Creek Park. The 1.95 acre parcel was donated by Mallinckrodt Corporation. The construction permit was issued on December 3, 1997.<\/p>\n<p>Station 22 was opened on July 31, 1998. Engine 22 was activated with a 1985 Pirsch Pumper. The 5,222 square-foot, one-story fire station was designed by Cherry Huffman Architects and erected by SAL Construction. The $850,000 facility was dedicated on August 5, 1998.<\/p>\n<p>Truck 22 was activated on August 14, 2001, with a 1988 Pierce articulating platform. It was renamed Ladder 22 on August 21, 2006, and renamed Ladder 5 on July 7, 2009.
