This Saturday, May 7, 2016, the annual North Carolina Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service will be conducted at Nash Square in downtown Raleigh. The event starts at 1:00 p.m. and will be preceded with a parade at 10:00 a.m., featuring honor guards, pipes and drums, and fire apparatus. See event information<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In addition, motorcyclists from across the state will participate in the annual Red Helmet Ride that day, to support the families of the fallen members and the North Carolina Fallen Firefighters Foundation. View the flyer<\/a> (PDF).<\/p>\n

Eight firefighters will be added to the memorial wall this year. Six perished in 2015, and two are legacy additions from earlier decades.<\/p>\n

The memorial was dedicated in 2006, and contains the names of over 280 firefighters and fire service members who\u2019ve died in the line of duty since 1902.<\/p>\n
