Here&#8217;s the current project schedule, from the <a href=\"https:\/\/raleighnc.gov\/projects\/fire-station-15-replacement\">official project page<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Summer 2024 &#8211; Project design Phase began<\/li>\n<li>Spring 2026 &#8211; Project design phase complete<\/li>\n<li>Spring 2026 &#8211; Construction bidding<\/li>\n<li>Fall 2026 &#8211; Project construction starts<\/li>\n<li>Spring 2028 &#8211; Project construction complete<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>June 2025 &#8211; Call for Artists for Public Art<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On [goes here], an RFQ was issued for creating public artwork at replacement Fire Station 15. The budget is $105,000 to design and fabricate. Up to three semi-finalists would be selected to interview and paid a $100 honorarium. The RFQ for proposals was advertised January 5, 2024. There were eight applicants. Project staff received the applications on February 9, 2024. City council authorized execution of the contract as part of their consent agenda at their July 2, 2024 meeting.<\/p>\n<p><strong>January 2024 &#8211; Construction Bids Solicited<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On January 5, 2024, an RFQ was issued for design and construction management services for relocating Raleigh Fire Station 15. The new facility is planned with ~17,000 square-feet and a construction budget of ~$13.5M, plus city contingency of $1.7M and projected escalation of $3.5M through end of construction in January 2027. The proposed site is on Spring Forest Road at Millbrook Exchange Park, near the current station. The RFQ is # 274-2024-CM-06.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Current Fire Station 15 opened on November 13, 1974. It&#8217;s a one-story structure with two drive-through bays and 5,664 square-feet. Changes over the years have included the expansion of the rear apparatus bay in 1996, to accommodate a larger aerial apparatus. It currently houses Engine 15 and Ladder 15. Over the years, it has also housed a battalion chief and a haz-mat unit. The Explorer Post was also based there for many years.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/legeros.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024-05-24-rfd.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-7931\" src=\"https:\/\/legeros.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024-05-24-rfd.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"749\" height=\"506\" srcset=\"https:\/\/legeros.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024-05-24-rfd.jpg 1273w, https:\/\/legeros.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024-05-24-rfd-300x203.jpg 300w, https:\/\/legeros.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024-05-24-rfd-730x493.jpg 730w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 749px) 100vw, 749px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>May 2023 &#8211; Replacement Station Budgeted<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On May 16, 2023 &#8211; the proposed FY24 budget for the City of Raleigh was announced. Capital projects included $5.85M in FY24 and $11.5M in FY25 for replacing Fire Station 15.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>March 2022 &#8211; New Doors Installed<\/strong><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>In the spring of 2022, new and higher doors were installed at Station 15, to allow Ladder 15 to exit from the front of the fire station. Due to the incline of the front apron, the tiller and earlier aerial apparatus had to exit through the rear of the apparatus bay.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/legeros.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024-05-25-rfd-sta15.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-7942\" src=\"https:\/\/legeros.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024-05-25-rfd-sta15.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"734\" height=\"551\" srcset=\"https:\/\/legeros.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024-05-25-rfd-sta15.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/legeros.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024-05-25-rfd-sta15-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/legeros.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024-05-25-rfd-sta15-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/legeros.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024-05-25-rfd-sta15-730x548.jpg 730w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 734px) 100vw, 734px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>April 2017 &#8211; Sprinkler System Installed<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In the spring of 2017, a sprinkler system was installed at Station 15. In August 2017, reported Legeros, a complete renovation of the facility was planned to start in 2018, with funding in FY18. In July 2018, reported Legeros, design of the station renovation was ongoing and bidding was planned to correspond with the completion of Station 11 renovation and expansion.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>June 2016 &#8211; Federal Grant for Sprinkler Systems<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On June 7, 2016, city council authorized the receiving of a federal grant for $151,555, to install fire sprinkler systems in Stations 2 and 15. Both were part of a multi-year, multi-million dollar project to update fourteen older (legacy) fire stations. <a href=\"https:\/\/legeros.com\/blog\/sprinkler-systems\/\">See blog posting<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>August 2015 &#8211; Station Renovations Project<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In August 2015, as part of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legeros.com\/ralwake\/raleigh\/history\/newsletter\/pdf\/strategic-plan-2015.pdf\">Raleigh Fire Department Strategic Plan for 2015 through 2020<\/a> (PDF), plans were developed to improve the physical and functional condition of legacy fire stations.
