Woof! This explosive bomb stars Sylvester Stallone as an ex-Agency "specialist," hired by Sharon Stone to kill the man who killed her parents. He stalks, she slinks, and that's it for characterization. Throw in one steamy shower between bombings and you've got a love story. Just like that. Blame the director for this watered-down cocktail of bombs, breasts, and biceps (with a chaser of James Wood overacting as Stallone's ex-partner). Luis Llosa can't seem to stage an action sequence to save his life and that's too bad, because a little dazzle in the direction can overcome almost *any* script deficiencies. Just ask Renny Harlin. Nothing sizzles in THE SPECIALIST, bedroom *or* bomb squad. What's worse is that the camp value isn't very high either. Even *with* Rod Steiger looking Marlon Brando and speaking with a bad Cuban accent. Joo know? BOTTOM LINE: Makes BLOWN AWAY look like SPEED. Grade: D-
