The Jungle Book (1995)

The bears don't sing and the monkeys don't dance in Disney's latest
version of the Rudyard Kipling classic. This live-action adventure is
actually closer in spirit to Indiana Jones than anything else. Chases,
races, and narrow escapes are the bare necessities of a plot that
centers on an *adult* Mowgli (Jason Scott Lee). Craaaaazy.

Director Stephen Sommers (THE ADVENTURES OF HUCK FINN) doesn't try for
too much depth and that's good for the kids, even if the violence is a
bit heavy. Adults will appreciate the snappy pace and the occasional
touch of whimsy from John Cleese. Great animal training, too, if you
don't mind the occasional computer composite.

Grade: B-
