MARVIN'S ROOM is a leftover from last year, an adaptation of Scott McPherson's stage play with Diane Keaton and Meryl Streep starring as long-estranged sisters who are reunited for a family illness. With a cast that includes Robert DeNiro and Leonardo DiCaprio, the acting is a good as you'd expect. Too much of the drama, though, is undercut by a cutesy sense of humor that, frankly, had me ready to walk out. (As did an eleventh-hour visit to Disney World, which would be easier to take if Mirimax wasn't owned by you know who.) Needless to say, I was quite surprised when the movie pulled a pow- erful ending right out of its butt. There wasn't a dry eye in the house, except, of course, for mine. (Rated "PG-13"/98 min.) Grade: B- Notes ===== MARVIN'S ROOM was screened at the Park Place 16 in Morrisville on 3/1. The sound of Darth Vader's breathing is the noisy air-con- ditioning system and *not* STAR WARS on an adjoining screen. Copyright 1997 by Michael J. Legeros
