Blood and Wine (1997)

BLOOD AND WINE, director Bob Rafelson's sixth (!) collaboration
with Jack Nicholson, is an uninvolving character drama-turned-caper
flick. Jack plays a Miami-based wine dealer, Judy Davis plays his
wife, Jennifer Lopez is the mistress, Stephen Dorff is the son who
likes the mistress, and good ol' Michael Caine is dad's wheezing
"business partner." The plot revolves around some stolen jewels,
that the wife and son get hold of. The acting is very good, the
screws turn very nicely, but none of the characters resonate in the
way they should. Except, I guess, for Caine, who remains interest-
ing from his first appearance to his last. (Rated "R"/98 min.)
