CHILDREN OF THE REVOLUTION, a political satire starring Judy Davis as an Aussie Commie who bears Joesph Stalin's love child, is brut- ally unfunny for the first forty minutes. Stay with it, endure the tired mock-documentary device, pretend to laugh at the jokes that aren't there, whisper in excitement when SHINE star Geoffrey Rush first appears, try very hard to convince yourself that shouldn't leave early, and you'll be rewarded, if such a thing constitutes a reward, with some modest, mounting zaniness when Stalin's son grows up, grows a mustache, and becomes a labor leader.
