JACKIE CHAN'S FIRST STRIKE, a dubbed domestication of POLICE STORY 4, casts Chan's supercop as a globetrotting secret agent a la 007. From the snowy slopes of the Ukraine to a shark-infested Aussie aquarium, director Stanley Tong (RUMBLE IN THE BRONX) recreates the stunt sequences from several better-known Bonds, including ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE and THUNDERBALL. Some bits are better than others and only one is a classic-- another expertly choreo- graphed martial-arts mosh that will leave you laughing through your tears. When he's not performing his own stunts-- of which there are far too few in this one-- Jackie does slapstick and mugs a lot for the camera. If that's the stuff that draws 'em worldwide, then maybe Pierce Brosnan should practice making funny faces. (Rated "R"/110 min.) Grade: C Copyright 1997 by Michael J. Legeros
