I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER is standard slasher fare, better- acted than average, I suppose, and with the extra treat of having been set (and shot) on our very own coast, right down the road in Southport, where a slicker-clad sicko is givin' folks the fishhook. You know the drill: lots of boos, blood, and teenage bodies in tight tops. And, in this case, the kids can't go to the police, because the killer knows something about, well, what they did last summer. The big disappointment here is how relentlessly straight- played the whole thing is, with next to nothing of the self-refer- ential wit writer Kevin Williamson showed in SCREAM. Interesting soundtrack, though, with a pair of amusing covers from Kula Shaker ("Hush") and Type O Negative ("Summer Breeze"). Don't forget as- pirin, for the headache that Denis Crossan's too-dark photography is likely to induce. (Rated "R"/100 min.) Grade: C+ Copyright 1997 Michael J.
