A BUG'S LIFE is a colorful confection. Inventive as all get-out, funny to the point of tear-inducing, and featuring Pixar's most accomplished animation to date. Solid vocal work, too, with a show-stopping (and perhaps Oscar-nominatable?) turn from Kevin Spacey as the villainous Hopper. (The plot: wacky circus bugs rescue ant colony from gang of grasshoppers.) Eh, the score could be better and the overstuffed script stronger-- this ain't no TOY STORY-- but there's so much to marvel at, great and small, that both you and your maggots are guaranteed a good buzz. And stay through the closing credits for a faux blooper reel that's almost as good as the film itself. With the voices of Dave Foley, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Phyllis Diller, Brad Garrett, Jonathan Harris, Bon- nie Hunt, David Hyde Pierce, Madeline Kahn, Richard Kind, and Denis Leary. Shown with Pixar's 1997 Academy Award-winning short GERI'S GAME. (Rated "G"/80 min.) Grade: B+ Copyright 1998 Michael J. Legeros Movie Hell is a trademark of Michael J. Legeros
