The Faculty (1998)

 
THE FACULTY is the best bad movie of the season.  Maybe of all last 
year.  Robert Rodriguez (DESPERADO) directs and Kevin Williamson 
(SCREAM) wrote the script for this umpteenth take on "Invasion of 
the Body Snatchers."  Brisk pacing, energetic direction, and win-
ning cast of teens are the just some of the highlights.  Good work 
from the adults, too, notably Robert Patrick (TERMINATOR 2) as a 
menacing football coach.  Eh, the story starts to unravel at about 
the hour mark, but stays watchable to the eye-rolling end.  With 
Elijah Wood, Usher Raymond, Clea DuVall, Laura Harris, and Josh 
Hartnett.  The title characters are played by the likes of Piper 
Laurie, Bebe Neuwirth, Daniel Von Bargen, and amusingly sultry 
Famke Janssen.  Story by David Wechter and Bruce Kimmel.  (Rated 
"R"/100 min.)
