FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS is a long trip, er, sit. The first half-hour is a frantic delight, after which point the novelty of Depp and Del Toro doing Cheech and Chong promptly wears off. Mono- tonous as the whole thing ultimately is-- well, at least to someone who never read the book, nor is a former stoner-- director Terry Gilliam (12 MONKEYS) comes through on the visuals. Vomiting scenes aside, this is a great movie to look at... With Christina Ricci, Gary Busey, and Ellen Barkin, among others. Gilliam, Tony Grisoni, Tod Davies, and Alex Cox are credited with the screenplay. (Rated "R"/125 min.) Grade: D+ Copyright 1998 Michael J. Legeros Movie Hell is a trademark of Michael J. Legeros
