Happiness (1998)

HAPPINESS is the new black comedy from writer/director/squirm-in-
ducer Todd Solenz (WELCOME TO THE DOLLHOUSE).  Though likely to be
disturbing to some/many-- the subject matter includes masturbation,
ejaculation, rape, and pedophilia-- the writing is sharp, the humor
wicked, and the at-times-grotesque casting dead-on.  My only gripes:
it's overlong (aren't they always?) and the tech credits are spotty.
(A bit heavy on the make-up, eh?  And did you catch that blinking
corpse?)  With Jane Adams, Dylan Baker, Lara Flynn Boyle, Philip
Seymour Hoffman, Cynthia Stevenson, Jared Harris, Ben Gazzara, and
Louise Lasser.  (Not Rated/132 min.)
