The X-Files (1998)

Lay people probably won't understand the plot of THE X-FILES movie.
No matter, as there are enough chills and conspiratorial thrills to
entertain (though not necessarily satisfy) even the most clueless
viewer. Like myself. Much more difficult to resolve is the lack
of charisma brought to the big-screen by either David Duchovny or
Gillian Anderson. (They look and act like, well, blown-up televis-
ion stars.) Equally problematic is the murky photography, which
makes the entire movie just plain uncomfortable to watch. Still,
if we've learned anything from the STAR TREK series, the next three
sequels should be good. And, for one non-fan's nit-pick, how in
the world are we supposed to believe that a quartet of contaminated
corpses would be disposed of in such a seemingly sloppy fashion?
Especially after we're shown such elaborate precautions regarding
it all?? Good grief. With Blythe Danner, William B. Davis, Armin
Mueller-Stahl, John Neville, and Terry O'Quinn. (Rated "PG-13"/118
min.)
