THE DINNER GAME is a very funny, multiple Cesar-winning French farce about an idiot (Jacques Villere) and the havoc he wreaks on the man who invites him to dinner (Thierry Lhermitte). Real characters with real feelings help keep this one from turning too manic. They also make an effective counter to the expertly staged/scripted physical/ verbal humor. You'll laugh, you'll cry from laughing, and, best of all, you'll feel good about the characters after it's all over. Frances Veber writes and directs. Recommended. Grade: A Copyright 1999 Michael J.
