Drop Dead Gorgeous (1999)

                                                  
DROP DEAD GORGEOUS is a Minnesota-set, FARGO-accented, small-town 
beauty pageant-set, black comedy-with-murder mock-documentary 
starring Kirstie Alley, Ellen Barkin, and Kirsten Dunst.  "Sledge-
hammer silliness" best-describes this one's wit.  You're sure to 
guffaw at something, somewhere.  Or at least until your eyes glaze 
over.  Or you flee in horror at the appearance of AUSTIN POWERS' 
frau Mindy Sterling as one of the chirpy Minnesota moms.  An hour 
was plenty for me...  Allison Janney, Brittany Murphy, and William 
Sasso also appear.  Michael Patrick Jann directs.  (Rated "PG-13"/
93 min.)
