Hokey as all get-out. The wild-man-who-lived-among-the-gorillas-and- now-is-in-a-psycho-ward suspenser proves that brash upstart Cuba Gooding Jr. (JERRY MAGUIRE) can hold his own opposite fellow Oscar winner An- thony Hopkins. Be prepared for some intense animal violence. Same for a terrifying amount of feel-good psychobabble. (This one's both a gripper *and* a gusher.) At least there's some smarts behind it. And a sharp supporting cast. With Donald Sutherland, George Dzundza, John Ashton, and a lovely Maura Tierney. Gerald Di Pego wrote the screen- play, "inspired" by Daniel Quinn's novel "Ishmael." Crowd-pleaser Jon Turtletaub (PHENOMENON, WHILE YOU WERE SLEEP- ING) directs. (Rated "R"/ 125 min.) Grade: B Copyright 1999 Michael J. Legeros Movie Hell is a trademark of Michael J. Legeros
