TREKKIES is a ticklish-if-taxing documentary that confirms your worst fears about the lives (or lack thereof) of obsessive Star Trek fans. "Next Generation" cast member Denise Crosby narrates and a mess of other cast members (both old and new) appear in this exceptionally even-handed film. (No creature gets made fun of, be it a costumed cat, the bearer of a self-administered Klingon tattoo, or, my favorite, a guy in drag singing sci-fi folk songs.) Needless to say, a little of this one goes an aw- fully long way. (At 88 minutes it feels closer to two hours...) Still, how can you *not* like a feature that wraps with an Elvis impersonator and then shows Star Trek stand-up routines over the closing credits? Thank you, thankyouverymuch. Frank D'Amico, Anne Murphy, James Doohan, DeForest Kelly, Leonard Nimoy, Nichelle Nichols, William Shatner, Walter Koenig, George Takei, Jonathan Frakes, Kate Mulgrew, LeVar Burton, Brent Spiner, Michael Dorn, and John de Lancie all appear. Roger Nygard directs. Grade: B- Copyright 1999 Michael J. Legeros Movie Hell is a trademark of Michael J. Legeros
