GREASE is still the word, or so it would seem in Virginia Beach, where on Friday night (at the Lynnhaven Five) a couple hundred teenage (teenage?) girls were singing, dancing, and shouting out dialogue. (They clapped and cheered and occasionally chanted; I had increasingly violent visions of tear gas and high-powered hoses.) Alas, the movie itself-- which I'd never seen-- was con- siderably less remarkable. Though blessed with an infectious en- ergy and two exceptionally appealing leads, the Highest Grossing Movie Musical of All Time struck me as thinly plotted, with too much visual "clutter" and not a strong-enough score. (The moral message seemed a bit dubious as well.) Of course, I could've walked out, but then I would've missed the sight of Olivia Newton- John in those tight black pants. And for that, I'm grateful... (Rated "PG"/110 min.) Grade: B- Copyright 1998 Michael J. Legeros Movie Hell is a trademark of Michael J. Legeros
