04/03/08 90 W, 1 I - + 11 - 14 Raleigh RIT Training

For the last couple of weeks, Raleigh firefighters have been conducting Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) training at 9400 Forum Drive. The location is a vacant commercial building, formerly used as a charter school. The one beside the cafeteria, and whose parking lot was used as a playground during the week. (The school would block both ends, so the kids could mill about.) The training has been the source of those hair-raising "mayday" calls on the radio, for those scanning all talkgroups. Lee has posted pictures of the drills.

It is great to see you guys out there doing this important kind of training, I’ve got a quick question for those that have participated, who is the battalion chief in charge of this drill or who is in charge? Thanks in advance for your help.

With access to this facility, it would be great to see Raleigh partner with Wake County Fire-Rescue and try to expand this training to the County departments. RIT is something that we need to advance countywide on a more consistent basis.
