The origins of rural fire protection in Cumberland County. November 13, 1943. City and county officials and citizens have been working on a plan to provide fire protection for areas outside Fayetteville. A fund of $5,000 will be raised by property and business owners in the county, to purchase a fire truck designed to fight fires "where no city water lines are available."
