08/21/09 122 W - + 11 - 7 Surry County Firefighters Struck By Lightning

Found on Dave Statter's site, two Surry County firefighters were struck by lightning in separate incidents Thursday night. The first strike was at a house fire on Boaz Lane, the firefighter working with the truck at a pond, when a bolt struck nearby. The strike was close enough for the firefighter to feel the effects. The second strike was at a house fire on Tanner Cove Road, where lighting struck about 100 feet from a second firefighter. Both are reportedly fine. The strikes occurred during a period of severe storm activity in the White Plains area. Departments responding to those fires included White Plains, Ararat, South Surry, Franklin, and Bannertown.
