09/12/10 113 W, 1 I - + 4 - 4 Increasing Your Suction

Or the alternate title of this posting, How to Suck More. Tired of your wimpy Garmin GPS windshield suction mount giving up the ghost every time there's global warming inside your car? Kick sand in the scrawny thing's face with this baby, a Bracketron Universal Low-Pro Windshield Mount. The Mr. Atlas of mounts. Get 'em anywhere. Twenty bucks. The thing has a bigger cup size, which is pretty exciting unto itself. Then there's the ratcheting lever, which produces some seriously strong adhesion. Suck it and forget it. Ten points extra credit if you can identify the mystery parking location of the Blog Mobile.

Not to be critical – (really, I’m not!); I use the MDT map in the Unit every shift to get oriented as to where we are going on a call – but there is something to be said about area familiarization and knowing how to get from A to B without the Garmin.

(And when your shift is over, please clean off the suction-cup circle mark on the windshield!)

“but there is something to be said about area familiarization and knowing how to get from A to B without the Garmin.” Key emphasis on “area familiarization”. Nothing like going to where MARVLIS takes you, looking around, and wondering just where the h*** you are at.

I am hoping to outfit Blog 1 with mobile data terminal technology. Awaiting word on an Assistance to Stalking Shutterbugs (ASS) grant.

There will also be mobile mounts released for the Uniden Home Patrol. The radio should be released in couple weeks. Link to more info below my name :-)
