08/04/12 46 W, 2 I - + 15 - 8 Raleigh's Cool New Police Cruisers

Here's one of Raleigh's new police cruisers, one a couple Caprices that are being tested as possible replacements for the Crown Victorias that are no longer produced. The police department is also testing a couple other models. Click to enlarge:

there is another one out there with a way cooler Batman looking lightbar and cameras on it…

OK, so you are all saying what a wimpy car, right??? So… let’s see, one of these “futuristic fuel savers” falls in behind you on I440 looking like the meek V6 “Impala-like” car of old; AND THEN you quickly find they are 6.0L V8, rear-wheel drive, Police only package monsters that are not available to civilians and capable of 154mph! Like Clint would say… “Go ahead…,make my day!” Details at: http://www.gmfleet.com/government/police..

Saw one today. Glad they are fast, they sure aren’t good looking!

I guess the big thing is that they get the job done….love the “go to hell” rims too.

Fuquay pd has purchased a couple of the new ford taurus. The smoke the crown vics and handle like a subaru due to the all wheel drive. It has only a v6 too.
fvpd - 08/04/12 - 23:50

What other models are they testing?
Will - 08/05/12 - 00:08

Reminds me of RoboCop! I believe RPD is testing a couple of the Ford Taurus Interceptors too… I am fascinated at the power to weight in these cars. Here’s a link to a side-by-side comparison for the Chevy, Ford, and the Dodge Charger. http://www.gmfleet.com/pdf/GM_Caprice.pd..

You will see marked chargers soon in cary. I was at the town shop just the other day and several 2012 chargers white in color were being sent off to have the graphics package added. I will snap a picture soon enough for Mike to add…

I sure hope Cary PD updated their graphics and got out of the 1980s.

I am liking the newest WSO graphics the best out of anything in the county right now, except maybe Holly Springs and Apex PDs

The black charger with gold stripes in Wake Forest looks good also.

“handle like a subaru”.... don’t think I’ve ever heard that before nor am I real interested in trying it out. Now… a “no charge option 6.0 v8” with 355hp and 384 ft. lbs torque now that is my kind of action.

Any chance of Chargers in Raleigh?
Neil - 08/06/12 - 22:38

@A.C. – Nice comparo. Not sure how having a longer car and only nine more HP in the V-6 over the Charger makes Chevy “Best-in-class”, but heck, it’s nice to see Chevy back in the V8, RWD police car market. But I’m a Dodge man, through and through, and would take a Charger (new or old) over all those others in a heartbeat.

They did a side by side test of the Ford, Chevy and Dodge the other night on Top Gear. The Ford pretty much beat the others in every category. It was really surprising to me. They also featured a mock chase with a Corvette. Wake S.O. got a “shout out” for having the only Z06 Corvette being used as a LEO vehicle in the country.
