Nine cars of a Southern Railway freight train derailed between Jones and Hillsborough Streets just after 1 p.m. on November 6, 1979. One of the cars collided with the rear of the Orthopedic Service Company at 102 Glenwood Avenue, briefly burying an employee who escaped without injury.
