When smoke blasted from the top of the Mangel's building on July 7, 1981, firefighter Reginald D. "Reggie" Perry nearly fell from his elevated perch. Grabbed by Thomas J. "T.J." Lester, the two were rotated away from danger. As the aerial platform slowly turned, Lester's unmanned stream sent spectators on the ground scrambling for shelter.
