Fire Station 17 opened at 4601 Pleasant Valley Road on April 9, 1984. Engine 17 was placed in service with a 1981 Mack pumper. On May 10, the Raleigh Fire Academy graduated 27 firefighters with a ceremony conducted at Station 17.
