The IGA Grocery Store at 718 North Person Street was reported on fire at 9:36 p.m. Smoke was showing from the rear of the structure upon arrival. The first-arriving engine requested a second alarm. Firefighters attempted to force a rear door and two crews subsequently entered the front of store about 9:55 p.m. Crews noticed indications that the fire was overhead. As the volume of fire grew and moved to the front of structure, flames began showing at approximately 9:53 p.m. Truck 1 positioned to the left of the building and operated a master stream onto the roof. Additional truck companies established master streams at the front and right of the building. Hand lines were required to cool apparatus from the radiant heat. The store and contents were a total loss. Three firefighters were injured and treated on the scene for smoke inhalation.
