Diamond Plate #3 Display Cases

Got Michael's? The artsy-crafty chain stores, which we have here in NC, stock a beveled edge, clear-acrylic display case that fits C3's third Diamond Plate and with room to spare! Same are about 15x6x7, plenty enough for antenna, open doors, and slightly elevated squirt. The catch? They're priced at $16.99. And aren't always "in stock." (I found one between two stores in Raleigh/Cary.) And, perfectionists be- ware, they're neither boxed nor protected with plastic. So check for scratches! (And you'll hafta scrub-scrub-scrub an extra-difficult UPC symbol sticker off. Unless you got "Goo Gone," which works every time.)

The upside, however, is that Michael's runs weekly newspaper ads, usually with a coupon for 40% off one, regular-priced item.

Giddy-yup.

Miniature Christmas Wreathes

Also found a Michaels, $1.99 (with 40% discount), teeny, tiny Christmas wreathes. Part of some Christmas Village get-up. Thing is, they're *perfect* for temporarily mounting to the grills of both "regular" Code #3 and the new DP#3, 'cause each packet comes with a couple different sizes. Ho ho ho...

Wax, Not Glue

Adding accessories?  Attach with wax instead of glue. In fact, arts 'n' crafts shops sell same for fixing dollhouse furniture in place.  Couple bucks, tops.  Remove with rubbing or warm water.

Comic Book Boards

Most display cases are wood, wood-colored, or have black plastic bases, all three of which tend to "swallow" the reds, oranges, and other characteristic dark colors of fire engines.  To reverse this effect, buy a $5 box of "boards" at your local comic-book shop.  Cut to fit both beneath and behind your models.  You believe how much better they'll look.

Comic Book Boards and Display Case Lids

Got a model that's just slightly too tall for lid 'n' base display case?  Place a piece of cardboard over the base; place the lid over the cardboard.  You'll add a quarter- or half-inch, or more!  Trim excess.

Removing Decals and Tampos From Metal

Acetone-free nail polish remover.  Warning:  Stinks to high-heaven.  Warning #2:  Mars, scars, and generally erodes plastic.  Use Q-Tips for maximum minimal effect.
