Delivered with rebuilt 1916 American LaFrance Type 17 aerial ladder by December 16, 1939, when City Council was told that it has been "rebuilt according to specifications, tried out, and found satisfactory." A photo of the refurbished apparatus appeared in the March 10, 1940 edition of the News & Observer. Replaced with a newer apparatus in May 1958, the truck was moved to reserve status. By 1974, the truck was parked behind Station 8 and retired from service. In 1980 or later, it was purchased by a private party that stored the truck in Apex. In the spring of 2008, the truck was sold to a Johnston County auction company, and sold to a private party in Angier.
