History:
Station 10 opened at 6:00 p.m. on February 24, 1971 at 2711 Sanderford Road. The
station cost $93,538 to build. It was formally dedicated on March 21. It
originally served the Kingwood Forest and Southgate communities in southeast
Raleigh. Engine 10, previously the second engine at Station 1, was placed in
service at Station 10 with a 1961 American LaFrance pumper. The station was
dedicated on March 21, 1971. Fire Chief Jack Keeter was photographed at the ceremony, sitting in the engine with a
dozen neighborhood children. Station 10 was the first of six fire stations built
during that decade, and has also housed a variety of reserve apparatus over the
years. It is located adjacent to Sanderford Road Park.
